Pixar’s “Elio” is still on the way. On June 13, the animation studio shared the first trailer for animated feature, teasing a universe-crossing adventure that’s coming to theaters in 2025. The movie tells the story of the titular Elio, a curious kid who ends up accidentally beamed into the center of outer space. He goes to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, and they mistake him as the ambassador for Earth, meant to represent them for the whole galaxy. Meanwhile on Earth, his mom searches for Elio while the fate of the planet is in his hands.
The new movie was first announced at the D23 Expo in September 2022. America Ferrera voices Elio’s mom, Olga, while Elio is voiced by Yonas Kibreab. The movie is directed by “Coco” screenwriter and codirector Adrian Molina and produced by “Coco” associate producer Mary Alice Drumm.
“Elio” is Disney and Pixar’s 28th feature film following this June’s “Elemental.” “Inside Out 2” — the sequel to 2015’s “Inside Out” — is scheduled to be released in 2024. Pixar also has an original TV show, “Win or Lose,” set to premiere on Disney+ this December. The show, which is Pixar’s first original series, follows a co-ed middle school softball team in the week before their championship game.
Ahead, here’s everything we know about “Elio” so far.
