Her typical workday at the time was non-stop, go-go-go action; in one day alone, Cyrus lists off nine interviews, a meeting with editors, and two photoshoots. The whole thing starts again the next day before she flies home and back to the Hannah set. “I’m a lot of things, but lazy ain’t one of them,” Cyrus says dryly, sending kudos to her younger self for that wild work schedule. “I do think this girl deserves a little endless summer vacation.” Um, same.
The singer’s trip down memory lane also includes revisiting her first solo album, Meet Miley Cyrus, which was paired with a Hannah Montana album. “The smartest thing to do was to put it on a double disk… I wasn’t valued at the time like Hannah was,” she explains. “The voice behind Hannah was always me.”
That album marked Cyrus’s breakthrough as a songwriter. “The Meet Miley Cyrus record was really where I started writing my own songs as a solo artist,” she said. “I was working with a producer in Malibu that lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I would’ve never known 15 years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down.” (The house in question is the Malibu home she shared with her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, which was destroyed during the 2018 California wildfires.)
Cyrus also takes a look back at moments from her childhood, including her father’s country career and her life on a tour bus. If you’ve followed Cyrus since her Disney debut, it’s a wonderful and introspective look at the full scope of her one-of-a-kind career.
