It seems Hollywood truly is a small world. On July 20, the unlikeliest of celebrity friendships — Adam Sandler and Timothée Chalamet — were spotted playing basketball in New York City. Casually engaging in a game of pickup, the (very sweaty) actors dribbled, passed, shot hoops, and exchanged fist bumps among a group of friends. Who knew these two were buddies?
In true Adam Sandler fashion, the 56-year-old actor wore a gray T-shirt that hilariously said, “Let me ask my wife.” (Sandler and his wife, Jackie, are the sweetest pair.) Twenty-seven-year-old Chalamet also matched in casual shorts and a tee, though we’re guessing they didn’t plan on coordinating. While many fans were initially confused by the seemingly random pairing, others were excited to see the two interacting. “I’d pay for courtside seats [though,] I’m so serious,” one Twitter user joked.
It’s unclear whether Chalamet and Sandler just met hours prior, have been friends for years, or simply share a mutual love for basketball, but they did appear in a movie together almost a decade ago. In the 2014 film “Men, Women & Children,” a comedy spotlighting parents and their high school kids, Sandler played one of the dads, while Chalamet portrayed a high school student.
Sandler previously shouted out Chalamet while accepting a Gotham Award in November 2022, implying his teen children were big fans of the younger actor. Explaining why daughters Sunny and Sadie didn’t join him at the award show, he said, “I don’t want to spend the whole night that’s supposed to be about me and my greatness listening to you two newly pubertized buffoons screaming, ‘Where is Timothée Chalamet?'”
Regardless of the reason for their recent outing, we are very much here for this unexpected celebrity friendship. See more photos from their casual pickup game ahead.
