Billie Lourd and Mark Hamill Honor Carrie Fisher at Star Wars-Themed Hollywood Walk of Fame Event

Carrie Fisher is being honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her daughter and costar both paid their respects to the late legend at the event. Fisher received the star on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, and costar Mark Hamill both honored her with speeches and posed alongside Star Wars mainstays C-3PO and R2-D2.

Hamill kicked off the ceremony by sharing his love for his onscreen sibling, who died in 2016. “I’ll never stop missing you, but I’m so thankful we had her as long as we did,” he said. “I’m grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness, and even the bratty self-indulgent crap my beloved space twin drove me crazy with through the years. So thank you, Carrie, I love you.”

Lourd also honored her mother in her speech. “I know my mom would just be so excited and grateful,” Lourd said, before thanking her “space uncle” Hamill for attending and speaking about his former costar. She told him, “I adore you beyond belief . . . I love you so much.” Still, she said, even when held up against Hamill’s character Luke Skywalker, “No one is or will ever be as hot or as cool as Princess Leia.”

Fisher’s role as Leia in the Star Wars franchise made her widely beloved, but Fisher herself was also an icon, known for her humor, bravery, and candidness. “My mom was glitter. She covered her world in it both literally and metaphorically,” Lourd said, going on to reflect on her own children, who were born after her mother’s death. “Even though they won’t get to meet my mom, they will know a piece of her through Leia, and I will get to tell them that the little lady in the TV is my momby, their grandmomby,” she said, seemingly using an affectionate nickname.

Not in attendance at the ceremony were Fisher’s siblings, Todd, Joely, and Tricia Leigh Fisher. In a May 3 statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Lourd explained why her uncle and aunts weren’t invited. “Days after my mom died, her brother and her sister chose to process their grief publicly and capitalize on my mother’s death, by doing multiple interviews and selling individual books for a lot of money, with my mom and my grandmother’s deaths as the subject,” she wrote.

Lourd welcomed her two children with Austen Rydell in 2020 and 2022. Lourd herself is Fisher’s only child, and her father is talent agent Bryan Lourd.
