Rihanna to Star in a New Smurfs Movie

The musician will also write and record original songs for the forthcoming Paramount Animation film

Rihanna revealed at CinemaCon today that she will be voicing Smurfette in Paramount Animation’s forthcoming Smurfs movie, Deadline reports. “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but It didn’t work out,” she apparently joked at the Las Vegas event. Rihanna is also going to write and record original songs for the film.

“Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me,” Rihanna also said, according to IndieWire. “I’m usually front and center with everything with my likeness… but this was fun, I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester, and be a blue badass.”

Paramount Animation is looking at a Friday, February 14, 2025, release date for its currently untitled Smurfs movie. The movie will follow 2011’s The Smurfs (starring Katy Perry as Smurfette) and 2017’s Smurfs: The Lost Village (starring Demi Lovato as Smurfette), among other Smurfs endeavors.

Earlier this year, Rihanna performed her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever single “Lift Me Up” at the 2023 Oscars. She got nominated for Best Original Song, too, but the Academy Award went to M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose for RRR’s “Naatu Naatu.”
