Christina Applegate Makes Her First Award Show Appearance Since MS Diagnosis

Christina Applegate is making her first award show appearance since sharing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021. The actor and “Dead to Me” star arrived at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards alongside her daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, while wearing a black suit and cane. LeNoble posed next to her mom in a matching suit, offering her support for Applegate, who is nominated for best actress in a comedy series.

Prior to the show, Applegate opened up to her Twitter followers about her mixed emotions. “So this Sunday will be the first awards show I have been to since 2019. And the first since MS,” she wrote on Jan. 13. “NERVOUS! But grateful to the @CriticsChoice for including me.”

Applegate announced her MS diagnosis in August 2021, writing on Twitter, “It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition.” She added, “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some assh*le blocks it.”

MS is a chronic condition in which the immune system affects the central nervous system, interfering with the communication between the body and the brain and causing symptoms like fatigue, pain, and mobility problems. Although there is currently no known cure, certain treatments are available to lessen the severity of symptoms.

Applegate has made a few public appearances more recently, giving an emotional speech at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in November 2022, even asking her followers to help her choose a “fancy” cane for the event. Still, these Critics’ Choice Awards mark a major milestone for Applegate, proving she is truly unstoppable in spite of her diagnosis. Keep scrolling to see more of her powerful appearance.
