Event Review: Camp Blood VIII Slasher Celebration

Mahoning Drive-in Theater Presents:

Camp Blood VIII Slasher Celebration (Guests, Games & Films on 35mm)

September 1 – 4, 2022

Mahoning Drive-in Theater

635 Seneca Rd, Lehighton, PA 18235

What an incredible tonight at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater, and who doesn’t love a good slasher film. People came out for night 3 of Camp Blood. The Mahoning staff dressed up as some legendary characters including “Crazy Ralph” who was just trying to warn everyone. It’s Labor Day and what a perfect way to celebrate with fellow horror-slasher fans who love movies. They had games, food, and lots of fun.

On Thursday, September 1, 2022, the Mahoning Drive-in welcomed THE MUTILATOR (1984) cast and played the movie. Fans came from all over and also some of the people who are working on THE MUTILATOR 2.

Friday, September 2, 2022, the Mahoning Drive-in welcomed Larry Zerner in person, and they played FRIDAY THE 13TH Part 3 (1982), Graduation Day (1981), and Blood Rage (1987).

For tonight’s show that I was able to attend they welcomed John Franklin, Courtney Gains, John Philbin, and director Fritz Kiersch who said, he was “so excited” to be a part of this reunion. It’s only the second time they have been together like this since filming Children of the Corn. Fans came from all over including Canada and New Orleans.

The movies they played tonight included Children of the Corn (1984), Alice, Sweet Alice (1976), and Night Warning (1981).

It was so great to see the amazing set they put together. I spoke with J.T. Mills who is part of the amazing staff at Mahoning and he was part of the crew that worked on the Children of the Corn set at Mahoning. They did such a great job. Fans showed up in cosplay and of course the ICONIC Alice was spotted walking around.

Sunday, September 4, 2022 they are playing Dressed to Kill (1980), that’s such a classic film. New Year’s Evil (1980), and Blood Games (1990).

It was one hell of a show. The vendors were doing great and the cast of Children of the Corn had a great time signing autographs, talking to fans from all over the place, and doing a Q&A. Courtney Gains also surprised fans by shouting, “Outlander” into the microphone. It received a rousing round of applause. Exhumed Films did a great job and the staff at Mahoning works their asses off putting all of this together. They had everything decorated, and posters hung up.
