Amber Portwood Reacts to Custody Loss: I Don’t Deserve This!

As previously reported, Amber Portwood has lost custody of her four-year old son, James.

On Tuesday afternoon, a judge in Indiana ruled that not only will the toddler live primarily with his father and Amber’s ex-boyfriend, Andrew Glennon…

… but that Glennon may also move with James to California.

Portwood will be permitted the occasional overnight visitation with her son, which is actually more than she’s had over the past three years.

Glennon has had primary custody of the child ever since Amber was arrested for domestic violence in July 2019.

Now, however, it’s legal and official.

In court documents obtained by The Sun, the judge granted Andrew’s request to relocate with James, while ordering that he “seek out and consider the mother’s opinion before making any major decisions relating to the child’s medical treatment, education and religion.”

This same judge also ordered both Amber and Andrew to submit monthly drug tests for the next six months, while Amber was ordered “to participate in individual counseling with the counselor of her selection and follow any recommendations made by the counselor.”

Both parties will be subjected to drug tests, as well.

In response to the court’s decision, Amber released a statement on Wednesday saying she was “devastated and heartbroken” by the outcome.

This, after telling Instagram followers earlier the same day that she was staying “positive” and going to “fight this,” arguing that she should not be held accountable for mistakes from her “past” because she is working to better herself.

“I’ve worked so hard to better myself and improve my relationships with my children,” the Teen Mom OG star added in her aforementioned statement.

“While I’ve always been candid about my past substance abuse and struggles with mental illness, a person should have the chance to redeem themselves and not be tethered to their problems from the past.”

Indeed, Portwood has said in the past that she has Bipolar Disorder.

Continued Amber in response to this parental nightmare:

“I’ve spent years rebuilding bridges and did everything that was required of me, including submitting 21 negative drug tests and undergoing multiple psychological evaluations.

“If your road has not been perfect, but you’ve worked hard to become a better, more stable and caring person today, keep moving forward as I will.

“I’ll never stop fighting for my children who I love more than anything.”

Portwood also shares a 13-year old daughter with ex Gary Shirley.

In response to the court ruling, meanwhile, Andrew told E! News:

“We endured the nightmare, now we get to live the dream.”

The former couple dated from 2017 to 2019.

They had been enmeshed in a custody battle for the past three years, ever since Portwood allegedly wielded a machete at Glennon and threatened suicide in July 2019.

Amber the OG

That October, the 16 and Pregnant alum pleaded guilty to two felony charges of domestic battery and intimidation.

But she recently completed the terms of her probation and avoided jail time as a result.

Last season on Teen Mom OG, Amber opened up about her strained relationship with daughter, Leah, and how she was hoping to improve their connection.

“I’m so proud of the young lady you have become,” Portwood said in a video message to her oldest child.

“I think about you every day. And I will never stop trying to mend our relationship no matter what it takes. I will always love you.

“You are my heart no matter what.”
