For Richard Christiansen, whose Flamingo Estate produces candles, wine, and other sensuous bounty, Mother Nature is the ultimate muse.
Style File
TO SLEEP: Entireworld underpants and my Whoop.
DAILY UNIFORM: I wear the same thing every day. My entire wardrobe can fit in one suitcase: Patagonia T-shirt, cargo pants, and work boots. Elder Statesman sweater if it’s cold.
GO-TO SHOE: Red Wing boots. The more I wear them, the better they look.
TO WORK OUT: T-shirts and sweats from the Great. They have the softest organic cotton and are genuinely good people.
STYLE ICON: A cross between Gianni Agnelli (when I’m not in a T-shirt) and Steve Irwin.
On Wellness
SKIN CARE: I’m not fussy. I don’t use any products. I drink a lot of water and I have a long hot bath every night. Earlier this year we made some handmade soaps, from indigo and rare Japanese essential oils: hinoki, hiba, Kitayama sugi, and yakusugi.
At Home
RECENT ADDITION: We recently hosted a collection of California-based ceramicists at the estate. One of them was the iconic Tony Marsh. He kindly sold me his vessel, which now sits next to a collection of metal furniture by Rick Owens.
PETS: My best best friends, Freeway and Daylesford, my English cocker spaniels.
For Pleasure
READING: Erosion by Terry Tempest Williams.
LISTENING TO: Pulling the Thread With Elise Loehnen: I listen to her podcast every morning on my bike.
INSPIRED BY: Stevie Wonder’s score to The Secret Life of Plants.
The Menu
HOME-COOKED SPECIALTY: My grandma’s lasagna.
POWER SNACK: Spoonful of almond butter.
INDULGENT DRINK: A glass of Sicilian red wine.
