Katie Thurston: The Bachelorette Was Bad for My Mental Health!

As previously reported, Katie Thurston is no longer in a relationship with John Hersey.

And as we can now report?

Katie Thurston doesn’t want to be in a relationship with The Bachelorette or any of its affiliated shows ever again, either.

Katie Thurston on Her Finale

Earlier this week, the former franchise lead was asked about her experience on this reality show — which resulted in Katie getting engaged to contestant Blake Moynes… then splitting from him late last year… then getting together with Hersey, another suitor, just a few weeks later.

Thurston and Hersey then went their separate ways last month.

If you could do it again, would you agree to be The Bachelorette? asked an Instagram user of Katie a few days ago.

I wouldn’t do Bach, Bachelorette or [Bachelor in Paradise], replied Thurston.

Thurston in Thought

Another person then followed up on this reply, telling Thurston:

“Ha why tho? It’s literally what made you rich and able to live the life you’re currently living.”

Katie said she received a lot of comments along these lines, so she went ahead and elaborated as follows:

“Thankful for the positives that have come from it, But I refuse to subject my mental health to that kind of experience AGAIN.

“Crossing that off my bucket list and onto the next big adventure.”

Elsewhere in this same social media Q&A, Thurston was asked what happened between her and Hersey.

“This is a simple yet complicated breakup given that we were best friends before dating,” the 31-year old said.

“We are on good terms so [we’re] just finding a healthy balance of space in order for closure…

“At the end of the day, you just want the person you love to be happy and you support whatever path they take to find that.”

As you can tell, Thurston doesn’t sound very bitter toward Hersey.

Upon announcing their break-up, however, she simply wrote online “Statement: no we aren’t together.”

Many interpreted this to mean the ex-reality star harbored plenty of hard feelings against her now-ex.

Hersey, for his part, provided a more detailed response to the situation.

“As Katie stated earlier, we are no longer dating. The decision was not made lightly and it was obviously not an easy one to make,” he began.

“I love being able to share special moments with you all — the funny ones. The happy ones. The outrageous, embarrassing, and heartfelt ones.

“But I don’t know if it will ever get easier to share the sad ones.

“I appreciate every one of you that has supported us throughout this journey. We could not (and would not) be here without you.”

John Hersey

Hersey also recently defended Thurston after one troll claimed she was not able to “get a guy.”

“You will speak a finite number of words throughout your life. I urge you to speak more kindly. Especially about someone you don’t know,” Hersey said in response.

“I have never been so supported or unconditionally loved by a partner. Assuming and implying that Katie is doing anything wrong does not sit right with me.

“The internet can be a mean place — let’s not add to it.”
