Linen shirts are an absolute necessity throughout summer. They’re one of few wardrobe items that have the power to transport you to a sunny, far-flung destination when the UK is looking (and feeling) grey – and we could certainly do with that RN.
Somewhat difficult to wear – unless you have strategic undergarments like invisible bras and seamless underwear – and iron-reliant if you hate creases, linen has still seen a surge in admirers over the past couple of summers. Our usual favourite hues, i.e. black, white, grey and beige, are a safe sartorial bet if you’re yet to invest in a linen shirt of any variety, but we’ve definitely noticed a surge in colourful iterations this season. Instagram’s favourite influencers have all been cashing in on the linen shirt trend, and they’re certainly not afraid of bright hues.

Although linen is a premium fabric, and even rivals silk when it comes to bedding, it doesn’t mean you can’t pick up a shirt made from the natural material for less than you’d expect. High street brands such as COS, Arket and Marks & Spencer have some seriously chic and lightweight linens at affordable prices. If you are looking to splurge, though, then opt for brands like Emporio Sirenuse, Charvet and Miguelina who work with the textile on the daily.
