The world of “The Walking Dead” expands even further with “Tales of the Walking Dead,” a brand new spinoff series that takes an anthology approach to its storytelling.
“Tales of the Walking Dead” will allow for standalone tales to be told, which should give the series a very different vibe from the established “Walking Dead” formula that has carried over from the main series into the other spinoffs we’ve seen thus far. You can watch a short “Tales of the Walking Dead” teaser trailer below, which promises a Summer 2022 premiere.
Olivia Munn (The Predator) will appear in an episode of “Tales of the Walking Dead,” with Samantha Morton set to reprise the role of main series villain Alpha in the spinoff.
The show’s cast also includes Daniella Pineda, Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards and Poppy Liu. Confirmed directors for the “Tales of the Walking Dead” spinoff include Haifaa al-Mansour (Good Lord Bird), Deborah Kampmeier (Star Trek: Picard), Tara Nicole Weyr (The Wilds), and Michael Satrazemis (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead).
“Each one hour episode is set within the world of “The Walking Dead” and will feature both new and existing characters.”
Channing Powell (“The Walking Dead”) will the spinoff’s showrunner.
“This series, more than any other in the Walking Dead Universe, runs on new voices, perspectives, and ideas — bringing to life stories unlike any we’ve told before,” franchise architect Scott Gimple said. “I’m thrilled to be Channing’s consigliere, helping in every way I can to make those new visions real for the best fans in TV. I started as a fan of ‘The Walking Dead’ and have ended up as a showrunner of what will hopefully be one of its most unique spin-offs. I’m so grateful to AMC and Scott for supporting me and my writers while we pushed, pulled and poked at the boundaries of this universe to bring you something new and unexpected, while hopefully still tending to what core audiences loved so much about the flagship show.”
This will be the fourth official “The Walking Dead” series, following in the wake of the main show, “Fear the Walking Dead,” and “The Walking Dead: World Beyond.”
A spinoff centered on Daryl and Carol is also in the works, along with a Maggie/Negan-centered spinoff series titled “Isle of the Dead” that will be set in New York City.
