Jennifer Lopez and Maluma released a music video for the ballad version of their song “Marry Me” on March 11, and it features an unexpected costar: J Lo’s boyfriend, Ben Affleck! The song was written for J Lo’s romantic comedy of the same name, which debuted in theaters and on Peacock in February. In the movie, there are two versions of the song — an upbeat pop version and a romantic ballad arrangement.
The new video for the latter arrangement features quick flashes of Lopez’s life, including some intimate shots of her and Affleck together in bed cuddling and holding hands, as well as Lopez and Maluma recording the song in the studio together. Affleck’s face is never fully in view, but the shots of his bearded chin are recognizable.
It’s hard not to read into Affleck’s appearance in a video for a song called “Marry Me.” The actor appears during some of the most romantic lyrics, when Lopez croons, “Baby, you’re my shelter / Shelter from a broken paradise. I couldn’t dream it any better if I tried.” At the February premiere of the film, Lopez wore a bridal minidress and posed for romantic photos with Affleck. If the pair were trying to spark engagement rumors, they’ve done a great job.
Affleck and Lopez were previously engaged back in 2002, though they ended up called the wedding off in 2004. The rekindling of their romance in 2021 came months after Lopez broke off her engagement with Alex Rodriguez. The first time Affleck and Lopez were together back in the early 2000s, he famously appeared in 2002’s “Jenny From the Block” video. After rekindling their romance last year, they re-created aspects of the “Jenny” music video during a yacht vacation that summer. See Affleck’s cameo in Lopez’s “Marry Me” video above.
