Today in Random and Totally Unexpected: Super Bowl halftime show performer Snoop Dogg drops a new track rapping over none other than the… Curb Your Enthusiasm theme music? The Luciano Michelini composition titled “Frolic” has become synonymous with Larry David’s beloved, twenty-years-and-counting HBO sitcom—and by extension, has become internet shorthand for videos and memes displaying someone suffering an awkward, cringe-inducing L.
Which is to say, it’s not the instrumental you’d expect a rapper to not sound like a complete clown trying to spit over, but Snoop’s fantastically titled “Crip Your Enthusiasm” is… actually kind of hard? It’s certainly the best marriage of Larry David and hip-hop since Krazee Eyez-Killa. For three-and-a-half minutes Big Snoopy cruises through LA, freestyling effortless bars about how hard he goes (and dropping Leon Black references) while smoking and rolling some schwag.
The track appears on BODR—as in, “Back on Death Row,” the rapper’s brand new album celebrating his achievement in finally owning the label that birthed him. That win has him sounding more energized than ever, as evidenced here and elsewhere on the album. But we need to know more about Snoop’s apparent Curb fandom. We need a proper video with Larry and JB Smoove cameos, a remix with previously reigning Curb rapper fan Cam’ron… we need Snoop in Curb season 12! Until then, watch the “Crip Ya Enthusiasm” video below.
