Spray body glitter is officially all over our feeds and it’s like being back in the ’90s

We know that Y2K is back, but this new TikTok trend is taking us one step further back in time. Yep, spray body glitter spray has gone viral (again)! Championed by ’90s fashion icons like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Drew Barrymore, this highlighting body make up trend is back.

Spray body glitter is all over TikTok right now and it’s a quick, easy and affordable way to add some 90s glamour or sparkle to any look.

Although covering your limbs in copious amounts of glitter gel was common practice in the ’90s, it is safe to say that this trend has returned post-hiatus looking somewhat more refined and modern.

In 2022, the glitter trend seems to be more about accentuating and enhancing, as well as giving your outfit a cute and elegant edge. You can use glitter as, or, instead of highlighter so placement is important if you’re using it in this way.

You generally want to be quite sparing with your spray body glitter, think ‘less is more’, and apply it to the areas you want to stand out: collar bones, cheek bones, brow bones, or down a forearm for example.

Alternatively, give yourself a sheer, glowy second skin like one TikToker, Sophie Cairns, by lightly spritzing your glitter spray all over – it’s a heavier and bolder look but gives you a crazy ethereal vibe (very Euphoria!).

While glitter is a fun, creative way to express your beauty identity, many traditional glitters have been made using non-biodegradable micro-plastics, which can filter into our water supply and oceans. So, if you’re looking to cover yourself in head to toe glitter, make sure you read our guide to the best biodegradable glitter makeup, or if you want to keep the sparkle solely on your eyes, we’ve also rounded up the best sustainable glitter eyeshadow to level up your out-out makeup.

Happy eco-friendly glitter-ing.
