Saweetie is kicking off 2022 with the big chop

Just as we were falling head over heels with Saweetie‘s red hair era, the singer decided that it was time it came to a close after a nearly three-month-long reign. The rapper showed off her newly-shaven head in a nine-part Instagram carousel on December 24. In the photos, Saweetie is shown lounging under a palm tree in a pastel string bikini, taking a dip in the water, and enjoying food and beverages — as one should while on festive vacay, of course.

Kendall Dorsey, the hairstylist responsible for the rapper’s major hair transformation and new blonde buzzcut, also shared a few snaps from Saweetie’s post via Instagram on December 24. Dorsey’s Instagram slideshow was accompanied by the caption, “2022 Version,” signaling that the rapper seems to be ushering in a new hair era ahead of the new year.

Many of the rapper’s fans were shocked by the big chop, with many fans asking in the comments why she suddenly went bald. One Instagram user was full-on feeling Saweetie’s new hair, though, writing, “At this point what hairstyle CAN’T you do?” Meanwhile, some Instagram users were quick to point out that her blonde buzzcut look makes her a dead-ringer for Amber Rose.

Saweetie’s new cut was pretty unexpected — to say the least — especially since she has become known for wearing her hair super long. But we hope just because it is not long like it once was, that it doesn’t mean all her bold hair colour changes are coming to an end.

New year, new hair. That’s how that popular saying goes, right? With a year as crazy as this one, the rapper couldn’t have chosen a better way to welcome a new calendar and see in 2022. We can’t wait to see more Saweetie hair transformations in the new year.
