Nobody was safe when Cardi B‘s debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy, dropped in 2018. “Bodak Yellow” was everywhere. Memes circulated of women, even the ones in happy relationships, aggressively rapping along to “Be Careful,” “I Do,” “Thru Your Phone,” and “Ring” at their partners. I’m guilty. So, where’s the follow-up?
Cardi’s fans have been patiently waiting. The short answer is Cardi’s been booked and busy! To hold us over, she’s released buzzy singles like “Please Me,” “Press,” “WAP,” and “Up” — all of which had accompanying music videos. The Bronx rapper has also been featured on hits like Migos’ “Clout,” Summer Walker’s “Bitter,” and Normani’s “Wild Side.” Additionally, Cardi executive produced the soundtrack to Halle Berry‘s Netflix movie Bruised. But that’s not all! Cardi appeared in the 2019 movie Hustlers, F9 in 2021, is starring in her Facebook series Cardi Tries and is shooting for her first leading role in the upcoming movie Assisted Living. Oh wait, I’m not done. The 29-year-old rapper also welcomed daughter, Kulture Kiari, in July 2018 and gave birth to a son, whose name has not been revealed, in September.
“It’s been a lot trying to balance out my new motherf*cking life,” Cardi said in a candid Instagram video posted on Dec. 13. “Like, I got two kids, my daughter’s going to school now, and I have a lot of jobs now. I’m in a lot of positions and that requires a lot of my time, and on top of that, I gotta put out this album next year.” She added, “Not only do I gotta put out an album, but like, I gotta record my movie, I gotta do so much sh*t, y’all.” See the full video below.
While I’m eager to see what Cardi has in store next, I’m cool toasting to the personal and professional accomplishments she’s had since Invasion of Privacy. She deserves to have a glass raised!
