Lucy Dacus is scheduled to play four concerts in different cities around Texas later this month, and today (September 2), she has announced that all proceeds from those shows will be donated to abortion funds. The decision is in response to the state’s new abortion legislation, which is among the most restrictive in the nation. “All the money I make at our upcoming shows in Texas will be going towards abortion funds jsyk,” Dacus tweeted earlier today. “If you’re not cool with that don‘t come.”
Dacus added that while her Austin and Dallas shows are sold out, tickets still remain for her Houston and San Antonio gigs. “Come thru and bring extra $ cause I’m gonna figure out a donation situation,” she wrote. Find her posts below.
Texas’ near-total abortion ban was signed into law yesterday (September 1). It prohibits abortion procedures after six weeks of pregnancy, and allows private citizens to sue doctors or abortion clinic employees who perform or help arrange for the procedure. The law effectively bans abortions outright, as the majority of women do not find out that they are pregnant until after six weeks.
