Remember when Busted said they’d been to the year 3000? Well, they were lying. Because they forgot to mention the new Nike GO FlyEase trainers.
The practically futuristic shoe is laceless, hands-free and features a bistable hinge that secures the shoe around your foot, without you needing to bend down and tie the laces.
Because really, who can be bothered to faff around with laces when you’re all bleary-eyed before your 7am pre-work run? By which we mean: when you’re hungover and heading to the shop for snacks.
You don’t need to worry about the shoe’s hinge opening and sending you flying into space whilst wearing them, because the hinge opens and closes on entry and exit, and a tensioner band keeps it in a locked position as you move.
The designers looked at how we typically put on and remove our shoes –basically, being the lazy cretins we are, we just shove our feet into them then kick them off when we’re done. So, the Nike GO FlyEase has a kickstand heel that mimics that action, allowing you to slip your feet in and out without hassle (and without damaging the back of your shoes).
The trainers are being praised for being a practical and accessible option for those who struggle to wear regular trainers, such as pregnant women who find it difficult to bend over, or those with disabilities such as cerebral palsy.
In fact, the inspiration behind the Nike GO FlyEase came from a letter written to the brand in 2021 by a teenager called Matthew Walzer, who has cerebral palsy, asking for easier-to-manage trainers. Nike asked him to collaborate with them on the design of the new hands-free shoe.
The new Nike GO FlyEase are priced at £104.95 with a limited release from 15th February for Nike Members. The general release is slated for later this year.
