On Monday, after new coronavirus cases doubled in the past 10 days, California Governor Gavin Newsom took action. Newsom moved 40 of the state’s 58 counties — or 94% of its population — into the most strict level of his Blueprint for a Safer Economy. And he hinted at more drastic action to come.
In his Monday news conference, Newsom said that the pace of tightening COVID-19 restrictions would escalate, and that as soon as this Friday the state’s top health officer may issue more stringent guidelines for mask wearing, social distancing and, potentially, a curfew.
