In a rare interview with British Vogue, Beyoncé spoke openly about her work, family, how they’ve been handling quarantine, and her adventures as an amateur beekeeper.
When asked by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful for a fact about herself that might surprise fans, the pop star revealed that her nickname is Queen B for good reason. “I know it’s random, but I have two beehives,” Beyoncé replied. “Real ones. I’ve had them at my house for a while now. I have around 80,000 bees and we make hundreds of jars of honey a year. I started the beehives because my daughters, Blue and Rumi, both have terrible allergies, and honey has countless healing properties.” And should she ever feel like giving up the whole music thing, she’s already got a fallback career as a honey salesman ready to go.
She went on to explain that, when it comes to her children, going through the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protest earlier this summer has made her “a better listener,” but it’s been hard to keep her eldest daughter Blue’s “world as positive and safe as can be for an eight-year-old” as she’s “very smart.” She continued, “My best advice is to love them harder than ever. I let my children know that they are never too young to contribute to changing the world. I never underestimate their thoughts and feelings, and I check in with them to understand how this is affecting them.”
And while it might look like the singer perpetually has it all together, Beyoncé confessed that she’s actually far from perfect. “I’m always losing my phone in my house or office, and I never know where my keys are. My phone is always dead,” she said. “I get days and dates confused all the time, but guaranteed, I’ll remember every detail of a conversation, what you were wearing or how your hair was styled. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
