What has been the greatest moment of 2020 for you?
This is actually a great question considering that there have been so many tough moments in 2020. I would say my greatest moment thus far was seeing my new single “Sexin’ You” hit #21 on iTunes. It restored so much hope in me and it reminded me that anything is possible. Sometimes we get so caught up in the “now” that we forget that our lives could change in the blink of an eye. That was a huge reminder for me.
How do you want your art to be remembered?
My first response is that I want to be remembered as one of the best. Thinking deeper though, I want my art to be a reminder of resilience and strength. I’ve fought a long time for my dreams and nothing has ever been handed to me. I continue to fight even when people underestimate me. The fact that my art even exists simply means that I’ve kept fighting. I want people to remember my art as a symbol of hope and strength.
How have you felt most appreciated as a creative and artist?
I can’t say that I feel appreciated but I ask myself is that even the goal? I used to seek people’s validation and approval but now my goal is simply to appreciate myself. I think I’m still learning about how to feel appreciation. I truly hope that I can do this one day.
Who have been your strongest allies in your career?
I have so many people on my team who believe in me. My strongest ally would definitely be my manager Joseph Pearson and my producer Eric Zayne. I truly don’t know what I would do without them.
What do you see as the most important part of your journey?
For me, the most important part of my journey is not giving up. I know for a fact that this is one thing that all successful people have in common. Even when taking baby steps, you are still moving forward. I know that if I just keep working, fighting, and trying. Eventually, I will get to where I am trying to go. It is not easy. Sometimes I wonder why my journey has seemed so difficult, but every day more and more I realize that it is preparing me for my bright future. The only way that I will see it is if I do not give up.
