As much as I like to bill myself as a relatively impassive person, I’m a sucker for two things: the holiday season and Dolly Parton. So imagine the genuine joy I felt when Netflix dropped the official trailer for Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square on Oct. 22. The one-minute clip begins with Parton softly crooning, “Christmas is a time for caring, being at your best / Christmas is a time for sharing, knowing you’ve been blessed” — a strategy I’m convinced is directly targeting me and my tear ducts. It then teases the events that unfold when a woman named Regina Fuller (Christine Baranski) decides to sell a small town without any regard for how it’ll affect residents. Perhaps a visit from an angel (Parton) will change her mind.
The musical, which was directed and choreographed by the iconic Debbie Allen, will feature 14 songs by Parton. Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, Josh Segarra, and Jeanine Mason are also among the stars set to give us a jolly good time.
