Watch Jack White Perform the White Stripes’ “Ball and Biscuit” on SNL

Jack White appeared on Saturday Night Live last night (October 10). He stepped in as a short-notice replacement on Friday after Morgan Wallen, who had previously been booked for this weekend, violated the production’s COVID-19 safety protocols. White performed a version of the White Stripes’ “Ball and Biscuit” interpolated with Blind Willie Johnson’s “Jesus Is Coming Soon,” which he opened by teasing his Beyoncé collaboration “Don’t Hurt Yourself.” He also played the title track from his 2014 solo album Lazaretto. Watch it below.

Johnson first recorded “Jesus Is Coming Soon,” a song about the 1918 flu pandemic, in 1928. During “Lazaretto,” White used a guitar designed by Eddie Van Halen in tribute to the late guitarist, who died earlier in the week at 65.

White’s most recent studio album was 2018’s Boarding House Reach, which he followed with a live album later in the year.
