Justice League: Snyder Cut Fans Raise $250,000 For Suicide Prevention

Fans rallying behind Justice League: The Snyder Cut have raised a massive amount for suicide prevention. When Joss Whedon’s Justice League first released into theaters, there was immediate pushback from fans. As it turns out, Whedon had completely redone a significant portion of Justice League after Zack Snyder left the project upon his daughter Autumn’s death. As a result of Whedon’s changes, fans began calling for Warner Bros. to release Snyder’s vision of the film, aka the Snyder Cut.

Warner Bros.’s announcement that the Snyder Cut would be released was a victory for all those who had fought for the original film, especially as the grassroots campaign itself had been ongoing for several years by that point. At the heart of the campaign, though, has not only been a push to further awareness of the Snyder Cut, but a cause that is far more important: suicide prevention. As a result of the massive amount of donations raised through the Snyder Cut campaign, fans raised $156,615 by January of this year for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or the AFSP.

Now, Zack Snyder has announced on Twitter that the Snyder Cut campaign has raised over $250,000 for the AFSP. He posts an image of the declaration, with the Snyder Cut symbol at the bottom, intertwined with that of the AFSP. In addition, Snyder highlights in his caption that the amount raised is “closing in on half a million,” which is an incredible feat in it of itself. You can see Snyder’s heartwarming tweet below:

While fans have donated directly to the AFSP, funds have also been raised through merchandise sales. More specifically, Snyder released a Justice League shirt in 2019 that provided cryptic details for what he’d originally intended in his multi-part story about the superhero team; sales for the shirt alone raised over $85,000. Moreover, Snyder has also designed other merchandise promoting the Snyder Cut, for which sales have also benefited the AFSP. All in all, it’s clear that fans of the Snyder Cut have rallied behind a cause that’s incredibly important to Snyder and his family and the results are truly astonishing.

While loyal fans got their wish of the Snyder Cut earlier this year, that hasn’t stopped the donations for the AFSP from flooding in. In spite of Warner Bros. confirming that Justice League: The Snyder Cut will debut on HBO Max in 2021, fans have continued to support the AFSP however they can, showing that this is a sustained movement that is here to stay.
