Forgive us for acting a little prematurely, but Christmas is already on our minds in a big way here at GLAMOUR. Granted, the sun is shining and we’re in the midst of weird-little-heatwave number two… but there are just 14 weeks ‘til the big day. And after the year we’ve had? We’re allowing ourselves to look forward.
We’ve dropped thoughts of summer dresses, sandals and sunglasses and replaced them with winter boot/winter coat/knitwear ponderings. We’re dreaming of layering capes at socially distanced Christmas parties (as given the seal of approval by Carolina Herrera, JW Anderson and Rodarte on AW20 catwalks), investing in Arket’s famed puffa coat for winter walks and planning our full-throttle red outfit for the big day itself. As championed by Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, no less.
And that’s not all. There’s another reason to get excited for the festive season – besides what we can wear: advent calendars. Gone are the days when we’d count down to Christmas with sweets and chocolates. Now, we count down with beauty, fine jewellery and porcelain. And we’re not mad about it.
If you love, as we do, the idea of opening one luxury present every day in the run up to Christmas, you’d better get on the luxury advent calendar hype. We’ve already rounded up the best beauty advent calendars for 2020, but now, a whole bunch of luxury brands (Harrods, Wedgwood and Tiffany, we’re looking at you) are dropping their luxury advent calendars for 2020, too – and there are some serious gems to be purchased.
Jo Malone has, of course, come up trumps with her luxury advent calendar this year. Always one of our favourites, it’s available from 1st October and is filled to the brim with surprises – from the brand’s best selling Colognes to travel-sized bath and body goodies and tonnes of miniature candles. It’s luxury fragrance at its finest.
If it’s a fine jewellery advent calendar you’re after, consider Carolina Bucci’s forte beads advent calendar. Available from Matches Fashion for £850, the box is inspired by the Tuscan night sky and opens to reveal 24 slide-out drawers, each fulled with hand-carved beads in a wide range of semi-precious stones. You’ll also find a 18kt gold bead on the 24th December, and every bead can be used on the sparkling supplied thread to create your own bespoke piece of jewellery.
