‘The Batman’ trailer gives a first look at Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and *everyone* is talking about it

The first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated DC movie The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, dropped at the weekend – and literally everyone is talking about it.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film will star Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, a role which he took over after Ben Affleck dropped out of writing, directing and starring in it.

The teaser trailer, set to Nirvana’s Something In The Way, briefly introduces us to some key characters, namely Catwoman (played by Zoe Kravitz, which we are so excited for), Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon and Oswald Cobbelpot AKA The Penguin (played by a totally unrecognisable Colin Farrell).

Also in the line-up are Paul Dano as The Riddler; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; and Andy Serkis as butler Alfred Pennyworth.

The DC’s FanDome virtual convention footage also gives us a first glimpse at the iconic Batmobile which, naturally, looks incredibly cool with bright blue flames shooting from its exhaust.

The story takes place two years into Bruce Wayne’s career as Batman, when he still just a masked vigilante, and when there are people ‘who are afraid of him, quite frankly,’ Reeves said. As it’s early into Batman’s emergence, it means that Catwoman, the Riddler and the Penguin are still in the early stages of their development, too. Crime is rife on the streets of Gotham City, and Batman begins to uncover the scale of corruption within the city, and its possible connection to the powerful Wayne family.

Production on the film was shut down because of the pandemic, so while its release was initially scheduled for 21st June 2021, it’s now been pushed back to 1st October 2021. Fans are naturally gutted about the delay, but now there’s an epic teaser trailer to get excited about. And what better month to release such a gothic, gritty take on the Dark Knight than the month of Halloween, right? We can’t wait…
