Cristal Carrington Exclusive Interview

How would you classify your music?

My music is Pop, but more in the direction of dance pop. It’s such a refreshing genre for me.  I love dance pop because it’s upbeat, encourages friendship and fun and most importantly gets that body moving.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

My top 5 of all time are:

Madonna

Stevie Wonder

Brittany Spears

Michael Jackson and surprisingly Tyler the Creator.  I love the way he brings melodies into rap mixes.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

My music is a lot about fun and freedom, so I want my fans to get that vibe.  The world is stressful enough, my music is light hearted and designed to put you in a carefree mode.

How is the music scene in your locale?

Well, the music scene where I live now, which is Baltimore MD is a bit under the radar.  There is talent here, but often-times, these areas get overlooked. I’m originally from Long Island, NY and we always need more artists from that area.  The city typically gets all the credit. Either way, the music scene is always changing and I think artists are having to come up with new innovative ways to reach their audiences, no matter where they live.

What is the best concert you have been to?

Totally loved the Beyonce – Lemonade concert because she brought the lemonade stands in; thought that was cute.  Most memorable concert, probably Santana. Saw him in Virginia at an outdoor venue in the summer, it was perfect summer time retro fun.

What do you like most about performing live?

Just vibing with the crowd.  I get a jolt knowing people are watching.  I’ve always loved the stage and felt comfortable on stage, so I’m very grateful that I’m not a shy person.

Is there a song on your latest CD release that stands out as your personal favorite & why?

I have so many favorites on this album, but Be A Star is at the top of that list. It’s just a song telling you to be a star and encouraging my fans and listeners to live their dreams. We could all use encouragement these days.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

This year has been so eye opening for me, as I’m sure it has been for everyone.  Ya know, I realized that I have a gift for writing songs, so I decided to step back out there to focus on writing hit music.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Wow, dead or alive?

Ok, I would have to say Michael Jackson.  I think he was the artist who reached a pinnacle of success never achieved by anyone in our lifetime and he would be most able to shed light on the industry, give me music tips and warn who to work with and who to stay away from.  I’m sure after his death he would have a list of people for me.

What’s next for you?

Focusing on getting my sound out to the world.  I’m really excited about this project and I’m hoping that the fans love it as much as I do, so please check out my latest album Revenge. A big thank you to the media and fan base for their wonderful support. PR work to be completed via Danie Cortese Entertainment. Stay tuned!
