“We Got The Summer” from Wild Fire

“We Got The Summer” is a new song from country – pop duo, Wild Fire. Raised during the age of Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, it’s no wonder these sisters resemble the confident songwriting and singing skills. Wild Fire’s “We Got The Summer” is sure to roar its way to the top.

Wild Fire is Kelli and Kayla Iutzwig. “We Got The Summer” follows the duo’s sophomore EP Been There (2019) and a previously self-titled debut EP. Houston, Texas is home base for the teenage sisters. Past tour sites include Nashville, the Houston Rodeo and School of Rock Clearlake at Houston’s House of Blues. Their journey might not be as long as sum, but the storytelling in “We Got The Summer” shows songwriting prowess beyond Wild Fire’s years.

Underneath the pop-laced lyrics is a music bed ripe for the taking. With ‘summer’ in the song title you know it’s going to be sunny and warm. It is. The guitar work is quick, melodically styled more into the country arena, with embellishments of bluegrass and a bit more honky tonk-like shreds. The percussion seems like a drum machine to me, but I couldn’t swear by that. It’s still great and the bubbling gives the song a stronger base. The icing on the cake are the vocals – I’m not clear on who is singing what because their voices blend so well together, but the Iutzwig’s utilize the natural cadences in their voices. It’s a melting of voices that is quite like the Dixie Chicks in “Ready To Run”.

Lyrically the song is quite sprite: “a week ago I never knew your name, crazy how things change, I’m thinking we got the summer…I’m falling under your spell…I’m thinking every night this summer, let’s be with each other.” It’s pretty clear that the girls have their eye on a new crush and they’ve already planned out the summer’s activities, complete with front row tickets to Red Rocks Amphitheater (Denver, Colorado). It’s so easy to  bop along too, and the chorus (we got the summer) is tattooed in your brain after just one listen. I can easily see this song being included in a young adult movie or Netflix program, too. It’s likeable and you can keep coming back to visit it and you still feel happiness each listen. Strong, female voices collide and the result is quite engaging.

I think not knowing what the summer means for so many outdoor events and concerts, songs like “We Got The Summer” feels like it’s taken the energy from the stage and brought it to the studio. It’s hard to not feel like so much doom and gloom is ahead of us for summer 2020. Now is the time to find songs that lift you up and help you escape. Full of positivity and ageless harmonies, fans of all music should be so lucky to have this one in their playlist shuffle. Cut loose and join the dance, Wild Fire’s “We Got The Summer” is one hot hit.
