Joe Pantoliano, one of the finest character actors of modern times, is recovering at home after getting hit by a car. The 68-year-old star of The Sopranos, The Matrix, Bad Boys, Risky Business, Memento, and a slew of others, was walking in his Connecticut neighborhood when he was hit by a Porsche was reportedly “T-boned” by another car. Pantoliano then collided into a wooden fence.
The actor suffered injury to his leg and was monitored for head and chest trauma at a hospital, and received stitches. Local police say the accident is still under investigation.
Pantoliano updated his Instagram page, with captions presumedly by his wife Nancy Sheppard. The images show him giving a thumbs-up despite the large gash on his head, and a close-up featuring a smile.
“Joey is home recovering,” the message reads. “He has a severe head injury and some chest trauma. He is going to be dark for a couple days while recovering. Thank you for all the well wishes and positive vibes. Keep them coming! We’ll reading them to him to help him get better!”
Eerily enough, Pantoliano’s Instagram also features a video taken just before the accident. The actor remarks at the beauty of a rainbow and “the little rainbows ahead of me,” revealing his family.
In season three, episode nine of The Sopranos (The Telltale Moozadell) you can witness Joe Pantoliano give a quick masterclass in “doing business,” a term for the gulf between the action of a scene and the true conflict of the scene. It also gives concrete proof that in North Jersey it isn’t “pasta and sauce,” it’s “macaroni and gravy.”
