Interview with Renowned Vocal Coach: Tara Simon

Thank you for your time today Tara! You run a very successful music studio, will you share with us what a typical day in the life of Tara looks like at the studio?

Will you share with us what a typical day in the life of Tara looks like at the studio?

We have such an exciting and artistic atmosphere at the studio.  At any given time, if you walk in and open up a random door to any of the studios suites you will find inside amazing piano, songwriting, acting and vocal sessions in progress.  Open up another door and you may find us midway through filming another YouTube tutorial.  There are always amazing clients in the reception area, jamming out to music or watching their favorite show on TV and when we are in between sessions, we love to go out and chat with them.  There always seems to be a buzz of excitement, and a sense of positive energy and joy flowing throughout the place. Not only am I a part of all of this amazingness, I facilitate and manage it on the front and back end.  So there is always an endless amount of work to be done and my checklist of “to-dos” never quite seems to go away…but I thank God for tomorrow, and a new morning to start it all again. You are not only a successful business owner but a successful musician in your own life. How do you create a work life balance for yourself?  HA! Finding time and balance is constantly eluding me. I really try hard to have a “me day” one day per week. Realistically (if it even happens at all) it ends up being a “me couple of hours”… but I take what I can get. I do have 2 nonnegotiables each day: I work out every morning 5 days per week, and from 5pm until he is asleep, I go into mommy mode.  I put away my phone and any other distractions and make those hours all about my son. It is etched into my schedule and routine and I consider that “me time” as well. Luckily, I freaking LOVE what I do, so I do consider it fun and find so much joy in it. (Which is really convenient cause I’m always working!). On the rare occasion I have a night free, you will find me salsa dancing somewhere, anywhere. I LOVE salsa dancing! Like…if I lost my voice tomorrow I would become a professional salsa dancer. (No Joke!) Okay back to business – how did you Tara Simons Studios get started? I started singing on stage since I was 3 years old. My first ever performance was at my church, and I still remember to this day being up there singing, how it felt, and how (even then) I knew music was going to be my life.  I sang regularly for many high profile events locally growing up, attended a prestigious performing arts high school (Dreyfoos School of the Arts), won best vocalist in state, and moved to NYC the day I turned 18 to attend a performing arts college and audition for Broadway. Less than a year later I found myself as the lead role in the European tour of the Broadway musical “Fame”. Everything really started snowballing for me after that.

It really looks like the studio has lessons for everyone – if someone decided to sign up for a lesson, is it something they can take at their own pace?

100% YES. That’s really why private lessons exist. We as coaches always find that one on one sessions allow us to give a taylor made experience for our clients.  So that means if you want to really take a lot of time for repetition, building strong muscle memory, etc.. you can! The same is true if you are someone who learns at a lightning fast pace and you eat through your artsistic material like a pitbull on a porkchop (lol)…we can more than keep up.  Meeting clients where they are, honoring that and holding space for them to grow into something special is what we truly excell at.

What is the best piece of advice you can give someone wanting to take vocal lessons and to get the most out of them when they do sign up?

Simply this: The proof is in the pudding. Read our testimonials, listen to our singers and their success stories, and pay attention to reviews. There are a lot of counterfeit coaches out there I am sorry to say. But if you do your research, the cream will always rise to the top. And we will be right there waiting for you. If you want to work with Tara Simon Studios for private piano lessons, voice lessons, studio recording, songwriting or any other artistic development, contact our team today.  If you are interested in the 8-week course, check out the 3 SECRETS to singing that nobody is talking about!

Anything else you would like to share?

Find out what you love to do. Work at that tirelessly. Find a way to make money at it, and you’ll never really work a day in your life.

Tell us where can we sign up for our first lesson.
