Lizzo opened up about body dysmorphia and it’s so relatable

Lizzo is fast becoming the most relatable woman on the planet. Through her unparalleled rise to fame over the last year, she has gained a cult following of young women who live for her no-BS attitude and candid chat on body image and self-love.

In her latest interview with Rolling Stone, Lizzo opened up about her struggle with body dysmorphia and self-doubt. Appearing on the magazine’s cover in a nude bodysuit with embroidered flowers, the singer discussed the pressures she felt to slim down during a particularly toxic relationship at 19. “He was like, ‘I’m a little guy. I need a little girl’.” After a brief attempt at emulating Zooey Deschanel, Lizzo came to the realisation that you “can’t just wake up and be a white girl.”

Instead, the Grammy-nominated singer channelled her newfound body-positivity into music. “We’re growing together, and it’s growing pains, but I’m just glad that I’m attached to something so organic and alive,” she said of the body-positivity movement, of which she is the ultimate ambassador.

Lizzo took to Instagram to share several epic images from the shoot. “As a black woman, I make music for people, from an experience that is from a black woman… I’m making music that hopefully makes other people feel good and helps me discover self-love. That message I want to go directly to black women, big black women, black trans women. Period,” she captioned the image.
