Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Are Hosting the 2021 Golden Globes

In the recent history of the Golden Globes, the ceremony has featured comedian Ricky Gervais has host a total of five times. Many people watching last Sunday’s Globes might have wished Gervais had only hosted four times. The audience members who thought Gervais’s performance was awkward at best might be happy to hear that former Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning to the drunken, often political party next year.

On Saturday, NBC Entertainment tweeted that the network’s darlings (they are both SNL alums and have each had a hit, award-winning show on NBC), are hosting the ceremony next year.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HPFPA) seems pleased to welcome back the comedic duo.

“There’s no denying that Tina and Amy’s comedic chemistry is infectious,” Lorenzo Soria, the president of the HFPA said. “We can’t wait to see the dynamic duo return to the Golden Globes stage.”

Poehler and Fey hosted the Globes beginning in 2013 and followed it up with two more hosting gigs in 2014 and 2015. Some of their most notable jokes, several of which this writer thinks about nearly every day of her life, include:

2013: “Quentin Tarantino is here, star of all my sexual nightmares,” Fey said. File this one to “I Think About This Joke a Lot.”

2014: “Gravity is nominated for Best Motion Picture. It’s the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.” Fey again with the zingers.

2015: Honestly, Fey loves to burn George Clooney: “George Clooney married Amal Almuddin this year. Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case; was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria; and was selected for a three-person UN commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. So tonight. . . her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.”
