Well, 2019 is almost at an end, and all over the world, bitter rivals are burying the hatchet in hopes of entering the new year with a clean karmic slate.
Unfortunately, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton cannot be counted among those who are looking to make peace with their enemies.
As you may have heard, Meghan and Harry spent the holiday season in Canada, logging some quality time with Meghan’s mom.
(You may know her as the only member of Meghan’s family who’s not awful.)
Meghan and Harry took a six-week break from their royal duties in order to make the trip, but it seems they were hoping to make up for lost time by entering the new year with a packed social calendar.
But if Kate Middleton has anything to say about, Meg will not be in attendance at January’s most exclusive events.
“Kate’s organizing some select get-togethers that will mean invites for a host of royals, including Beatrice and Eugenie, Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall,” a source close to the situation tells Radar Online.
Kate has reportedly invited “numerous aristocrat associates who Harry and Meghan would enjoy seeing” — but she rather conspicuously did not invite Harry and Meghan.
As you’re probably aware, the Kate vs. Meghan feud has been raging for years now.
Accounts differ with regard to the cause and the exact start date, but it’s widely agreed that the bad blood dates back at least to Christmas of 2017, when Prince Charles arranged a “peace summit” for the duchesses at his home.
Needless to say, the sit-down did not have the desired outcome.
According to those most familiar with the situation, Kate and Meg are still waging a cold war and jockeying for position within the royal family.
That means, of course, currying favor with the Queen, and it seems that Meg and Harry’s extended Canadian sojourn has offered Kate an unprecedented opportunity to claim a place as the royal matriarch’s favorite granddaughter-in-law.
“Kate’s standing in the palace has never been so high, so she feels no obligation to make nice with Meghan and Harry,” the insider tells Radar.
The source adds that Kate will not be apologizing or attempting to mend fences “until they reciprocate the effort she and William have been making with them for well over a year now.”
Yes, it sounds as though Kate is enjoying the upper hand, and she intends to make her position clear by icing the Sussexes out of the winter’s biggest social events.
“Kate’s decided she needs to be cruel to be kind and it’s time her sister-in-law learned a harsh lesson,” says the source. “Needless to say, it hasn’t been well received at all.”
Sounds like Harry and Meghan are in for quite a homecoming!
