Ivanka Trump Insists Her Father Is Totally Unfazed by Impeachment

Since the House of Representatives announced its decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump last September, the president has reacted to the situation in such a way that, were he not the leader of the free world, would have led to him being escorted out of the White House in a straitjacket some time ago. On a daily basis, he’s raged about “WITCH HUNT[S]” and ”PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT.” He’s suggested the government should execute the whistle-blower’s source like “in the old days.” On Tuesday, he sent a deranged six-page letter to Nancy Pelosi that shockingly didn’t end with “DROP THIS IMPEACHMENT BUSINESS OR YOUR DOG GETS IT!” The night the House voted to impeach, Trump rambled on for two hours in Michigan about toilets, how unattractive Adam Schiff was, and people who are probably burning in hell. But according to his daughter, he’s taking this whole thing in total stride. Not panicked or freaking out at all.

Appearing on CBS News, Ivanka Trump told Margaret Brennan that, actually, her dad/boss is totally chill with all of this. “You saw his mood last night [at the rally] and so did everyone watching,” the first daughter said. “He said he didn’t even feel like he was being impeached…. I think he sees it for what it is, which is just raw partisan politics.” In fact, Ivanka claimed, not only does her father have a totally healthy perspective on what his happening, he’s actually loving it.

“He’s energized,” Princess Purses insisted, “as are 63 million plus voters who elected him to office.” Reminded of his completely insane missive to the House Speaker, and that, perhaps, “unhinged,” “out of his mind,” or “even crazier than we ever thought possible” would be appropriate, Trump responded that if her father has exhibited any signs of anger it’s just because he’s upset on behalf of the American people and it totally has nothing to do with him, a man who, again, is a completely stable and lucid individual who is not at all a danger to himself or other people. “You can be angry at a process that is unjust,” Ivanka began before launching into her typical word salad talking points. “And I think you heard from all the Republicans in the House yesterday, their anger, their disbelief that this process was proceeding forward when just several months ago, the Speaker herself said she would not advance impeachment without bipartisan agreement and consent. So there can be anger. Anger at the opportunity cost to the Americans we’re all here serving. And what could have gotten done. Angry at the waste of time. Angry at the collateral damage. Angry, but it’s still energizing. And it focuses you on really and draws into relief the stark contrast in priorities between Republicans and Democrats today, that could change in the future. But today, we are focused on delivering historic wins and sadly we can’t define the priorities of anyone but ourselves. So we know what the White House is committed to doing and we are delivering time after time.”

Later, when asked about the wisdom of her father employing a personal lawyer who played a key role in the scheme that led to him being impeached, the first daughter essentially responded that once upon a time, Rudy Giuliani didn‘t immediately strike people as a total crook:
