5 women test: Tom Ford’s Extreme Badass Lid Lacquer

Every week the GLAMOUR team is doing the hard job of trying out the latest beauty drops. From last week’s DiorShow Liquid Mono Eyeshadow to Trinny London’s Sheer Shimmer Lip2Cheek collection. This week we’ve got our hands on Tom Ford Extreme Badass Lid Lacquer, a black liquid eye shadow for ‘gleaming, oil-slick effect eyes.’ It turns out this product is pretty versatile (you’ll see by the reviews…)

The Reviews

Lottie Winter, Beauty Editor
I love a smoky eye, and I love the idea of a glossy lid. While the product blended like a dream and offered buildable colour, it was slightly too slick for me in practice – I had black gloss on my chin, cheeks and hair within minutes. If I were to wear it again, I would apply less and concentrate on my lash line, rather than entire lid.

I know it’s intended for my eyelids but since goth chic is a key look right now, I decided to use this on my lips instead (it’s a two-in-one – bonus!) The applicator is just the right size for applying on the lips but I found that whilst the colour was extremely pigmented, I’m not too sure on the darker, blacker colour works for on my skin tone.

Chelsea Hughes, Digital and Multimedia Picture Editor
I don’t usually go for black hues on my eyes, I usually opt for browns. I didn’t actually mind the glossy look and feel of the product, I think in a softer colour or a more vibrant neon colour would be better. As you can see – an intense black with my bright blue eyes looks a bit ridiculous.

Serena Connolly, PA to the Publishing Director / Assistant Producer
The Tom Ford Black Lid Liqueur is effortlessly chic. In a small black and silver tube, application is easy. With just one layer the colour is quite washed out, so I would recommend applying two or three layers for a solid colour block. Would look great with a matching strong lip colour.

I’m not a big wearer of heavy eye makeup and if I do a smoky eye, it tends to be quite low-key. I found this a bit fiddly to apply, I wasn’t sure how much to put on and whether to blend with my fingers. In the end I probably put too much on and the colour transferred up my eyelid more than I wanted it to. As I have quite fair skin, I also needed a bit more blusher than usual to stop me looking washed out.
