You’re a Legend for This One, Joe Pesci

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman isn’t even out yet—next week!—but it’s already operating in the realm of movie myth. The legendary Joe Pesci, the story already goes, had been retired for years—and then Scorsese and Robert De Niro convinced him to lace up his cleats one more time for The Irishman. (Though not without plenty of attempted rejections on Pesci’s part.)

Let us, the assembled adjudicators of the #BigFitoftheDay, now formally thank Scorsese and De Niro for their efforts. Because, at Thursday’s long-awaited Los Angeles premiere of the movie, Pesci walked the red carpet, and he looked like the coolest sonofabitch on the planet. The hat, the glasses, the goatee, the club and shawl collars operating in sync: all tremendous. But save a bit of enthusiasm, as we did, for the largest shirt cuffs on the west coast, shirt cuffs that contain within them enough swagger to power a hundred VCRs all playing worn-out copies of My Cousin Vinny. Welcome back, Joe.
