It’s been a year since Joey King shaved her head for her Emmy-nominated role in The Act. Considering it was her third time buzzing her hair clean off, she definitely knew what she was in for with the growing-out phase — anyone who’s gone from very shortto significantly longer can tell you there are definitely a few awkward stages. But King just shared a photo proving how gracefully she’s handling the long wait for long hair, not to mention how chicly.
In the caption accompanying an Instagram photo posted on Wednesday, King wrote, “The one where Joey has a bob now” (an A-plus Friends reference), showing off her now chin-length wavy hair. Arguably the cut of the season, the bob looks absolutely incredible on her, garnering more than a million likes and plenty of affirming comments from fans and fellow celebrities.
But look closely and you may see there’s a shorter layer in King’s bob — one, I suspect, where her natural hair ends and extensions begin. Just a day earlier, King was seen with a shoulder-length look at an InStyle event — much longer than the short, curly style she wore to the Emmys only a month ago. It seems stylist Dimitri Giannetos added inches with extensions, and then, instead of removing them, simply snipped them into a super-snazzy bob.
King is one of the latest in a slew of celebrities who’ve embraced the chin-grazing bob trend. Recent adopters include Kristen Bell, Lucy Liu, Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner (though she’s constantly switching it up with extensions), Ciara, Kim Kardashian, and more. And considering how fabulous the style looks on every single one of them, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if more stars follow suit.
