As The Walking Dead heads into an impressive tenth season this Sunday, the AMC horror-drama seemed committed to assuring attendees of New York Comic-Con it had plenty more to offer. Fans have not only the return of a long-lost favorite to keep momentum into Season 11, but a trailer for the as-yet-untitled third series in the zombie apocalypse.
First and foremost, the New York panel confirmed that Lauren Cohan would return as series regular for the just-announced 11th season, following the actress’ tender exit in Season 9. Cohan had reportedly pursued a salary increase at the time, and subsequently exited the series to star in ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier. Her character, Maggie Rhee (née Greene), has been referenced as having moved to join an off-screen community of survivors. Cohan also put in an appearance at the NYCC panel, for good measure.
“The Walking Dead burst out of the gate ten years ago as a genre show that had all the character depth of a top-tier prestige drama,” said Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group & AMC Studios. “And now ten years later – led by the brilliant Angela Kang and fueled by one of the most consistently talented casts in television – this phenomenon is flourishing creatively, with critics and audiences embracing its reset. We’re delighted to welcome back Lauren Cohan, she has meant so much to this show and its passionate, global fanbase, who are in for a fantastic ride over the coming months.”
AMC also provided a first look at its third series set in the Walking Dead franchise, which follows a young group of survivors a decade into the apocalypse. And who doesn’t love coming-of-age dramedies peppered with moss-covered zombie ghouls?
Set for a Spring 2020 premiere, the untitled drama boasts Annet Mahendru, Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston among its Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed cast.
