If there’s one haircut that’s captured our collective fascination over the past month, it’s the “Allie-Cat Cut”. For those uninitiated, Amazon Prime’s latest college drama, Off Campus, has sparked a dedicated following across Gen Z and millennials for its respectful portrayal of friendships, fun and even, “puck” buddies bunnies.
Not only is the chemistry among the cast off the charts, but we’re pretty invested in the aesthetics, too. Already internet sleuths are uncovering the exact items worn by the characters, but there’s a fan base quickly building for the beauty looks as well. Headlining, is the haircut rocked by chief bestie, Allie Hayes – or “Allie-Cat”, according to her puck bud, college hockey star, Dean Di Laurentis, who went ahead and put the pet in pet name.
It tracks. The “Allie-Cat Cut” follows a growing edit of trending animal-inspired chops (see: the wolf cut, kitty cut, butterfly cut and mouse cut), but this time, it’s supercharged with some serious main character energy and a side of pop-culture virality.
What is the Allie-Cat Cut?
Top line? The Allie-Cat Cut is the statement shaggy, textured, heavily fringed haircut worn by actress, Mika Abdalla, who plays Allie Hayes in the series, but the name holds extra significance. The Allie-Cat Cut nods to another trending animal chop, the wolf cut, which blends a shag and a mullet, only it’s a little less ’70s rock n roll and a bit more 2000s bohemian.
This has alley cat energy – it’s wild, it’s audacious, it’s free-spirited and it’s low-key ferocious, which means it requires a fair amount of cool-girl confidence to pull it off. It has a lot of the same structure of a wolf cut – lots of short, shaggy layers scattered throughout the length and up to the crown, but it’s slightly more styled and refined with curl creams and some tactical styling to get it to look the perfect amount of scrappy, sexy and undone.
How to get the Allie-Cat Cut?
As for how to get the cut right, one woman we knew would have the answer is Marisa Mitchell, Mika’s long-time hair stylist, who has been cutting Mika’s statement chop for years. She told GLAMOUR: “When heading to the salon to get a cut like Mika’s, ask for a really strong shag. This has a very heavy bang, and very short crown layers. Bring pictures if you’re nervous, We love that.”
