Kenneth Branagh “Would Love” To Direct Another ‘Thor’ Film

After 15 years, Kenneth Branagh has considered returning to the MCU for another cinematic outing with the Avengers’ favorite Norse god.

The Oscar winner, who directed 2011’s Thor, recently confessed that he “would love to finish my relationship with that character” in a darker sequel that would take the character “into a glorious twilight.”

“I definitely was ready for another, for sure, but not right then,” he told Business Insider. “Marvel shoots are intense. Marvel postproduction is more intense — wildly exciting but super intense. I definitely needed to smell the roses. Kevin Feige was very understanding, and so was the cast. I needed a break.”

Branagh added, “Part of me would love to finish my relationship with that character. I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant Logan. I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight.”

As a fan of the franchise, Branagh thinks it “would be something very beautiful to take those characters into their own particular sunset,” but whether or not he would direct the installment is “a whole other question.”

“They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I’m sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set,” said Branagh. “All I know is there’s something beautiful to be had out of arriving at a conclusion for that arc of those stories with those characters and those actors.”

Following Branagh’s work directing the 2011 adaptation of the Marvel comic, Thor: The Dark World (2013) was directed by Alan Taylor. Taika Waititi then directed Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
