She thought it was a simple mistake. When it came time to renew her passport, Caitlyn Jenner had the unpleasant surprise of receiving her ID stamped with an “M” for “male.” A fervent admirer of Donald Trump, the reality TV star called on the president for help.
“This is a safety factor,” Jenner explained during a recent episode of the Fox News podcast Tomi Lahren Is Fearless. Although she had updated all her identifying documents since her coming out in 2015, the Olympic medalist can no longer use her passport for international travel and could encounter difficulties (or transphobic attacks) at every checkpoint
Jenner recounted how she took it upon herself to send a copy of her birth certificate, which lists her under “F,” thinking there was simply an administrative error. Still, her passport came back marked with an “M.”
Although she says she doesn’t blame Trump, the parent of sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner thinks this measure “was just not thought out well.” She is still awaiting the president response’s to a letter she wrote him about the matters, explaining that “he’s kind of busy right now.”
The transphobic measure recognizing only women as biologically born female and men as biologically born male was among the series of executive orders Trump signed on the day he arrived at the White House in January 2025. He also ordered the elimination of $50 million in federal funding for an LBTQIA+ youth suicide prevention program in June.
These repeated attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community—which, whatever Jenner may say, were Trump’s campaign promises—have been strongly decried by numerous celebrities including Pedro Pascal, Ariana Grande, Sarah Paulson, and Hunter Schafer, who also blasted Trump on social media after she received her new, altered passport.
Still very active in Republican circles, Jenner made a point of asserting that she had no grudge against the president. But if the former Olympian is surprised by the consequences of such a measure one year after its ratification, she’s the only one.
