Gigi Hadid has done what no influencer has been able to achieve: Convincing me to buy mesh ballet flats.
On June 13, Hadid and Bradley Cooper were photographed arriving at COTE Korean Steakhouse in New York City, where they met up with Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon — and it doesn’t look like anyone texted “what are you wearing” in the group chat beforehand.
While Cooper arrived in a simple blue t-shirt, pants, and suede green sneakers, Pitt was fitted in a billowing silk button-up and grey jeans with a square-toed dress shoe. Meanwhile, Ramon was the only one in a dress and open-toed shoes, opting for an off-the-shoulder yellow mini dress and beige Louboutin heels.

For her part, Hadid kept her double date ‘fit pretty relaxed, topping off a pair lightly crinkled silk track pants (wrinkles are in for 2025) with a crisp white T-shirt layered and a light-wash denim Levi’s button-up. She topped the look off wither her favourite quiet luxury staple: The Loro Piana L19 clutch bag, this time in an icy blue leather.

Hadid’s hair was pulled back in a sleek bun and she wore minimal makeup with a plum lip tint, accessorising with a simple chain necklace, bangles, and a smattering of other jewellery pieces that matched her handbag. But those weren’t the only touches of something blue.
The 30-year-old model appeared to be matching her accessories to her bright blue pedicure, which really popped against her white mesh ballet flats.

It’s been over a year since the sheer trend came for our shoes. Mesh ballet flats first began popping off in early 2024, largely due to the popularity of The Row’s mesh sock flats and Alaïa’s fishnet ballerina flats with a buckle strap. Though many brands have since released their own versions of the woven flat, Gigi Hadid seemed to reach for the latter (if not one if it’s many dupes).
There’s something fresh about the way Hadid’s pedicure pokes through her mesh Mary Jane flats, which could not be achieved with an obvious flip flop or summer sandal. All of a sudden, I’m seeing a gap in my shoe collection, right between my fisherman flats and thong sandals.
Luckily, you don’t not need to drop £690 to give the look a spin. Just take a look through Glamour’s top picks or try one of the options I currently have open in my tabs:
