EXCLUSIVE: Amarpal Dhillon and Charles Wahl’s quirky comedy Normal Scotia has been handed a second season.
The series – which is billed as “Letterkenny, but from the perspective of the newcomers” – is set to go back into production later this year after Bell Media streaming network Bell Fibe TV1 greenlit Season 2.
Wahl is co-writing season 2 with series lead Akshay Shirke, who is returning. Dhillon is staying on as an exec producer but is not writing.
Shirke starred in Season 1 opposite Ishan Sandhu, with Sandi Rankaduwa, Misha Bakshi, Dave Rosetti, Ella MacDonald, Raj Selva and Davender Singh Mahli also in the cast.
Dhillon, Wahl and Siobhan Kennedy-Camera are the producers, with Wahl directing.
The series follows a pair of newly landed Indian immigrants who have to learn the many wacky ways of the locals in Nova Scotia, Canada. They work in a large curling club and through their jobs befriend a wide range of Martimers as both customers and co-workers.
Amarpal was raised by Indian immigrants in Halifax, NS. Normal Scotia marks his debut script, though he has produced short films such as CBC’s Pria and Bravo’s Love in the Age of Like.
Wahl’s Moroccan mother and German father immigrated to Canada when he was two years old, living in a household that also included several family members from the Middle East, who his parent put up. Wahl’s latest film, Paper, stars Shaun Majumder. His project have featured at SXSW, the Seattle International Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival among others, and his short, The Mohel, won Best Live Action Short at the Palm Springs International ShortFest in 2021.
