‘The Sadness’ Director Rob Jabbaz Will Helm Garth Ennis’ ‘Crossed’ Adaptation

After being heavily inspired by Crossed with his feature debut The Sadness, filmmaker Rob Jabbaz will next direct an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic, Variety reports.

Ennis, who also created “The Boys” and “Preacher,” penned the script, based on the original 10 issues of his Jacen Burrows-illustrated comic published by Avatar Press between 2008 and 2010.

Crossed is set in a pandemic-stricken world in which those infected with a disease marked by a cross-like rash on their faces follow their worst impulses, turning them into homicidal maniacs.

Six Studios is behind the project with an expected budget in the $2-3 million range. A March filming date is being eyed.

“It has been a real delight working with Garth Ennis and Six Studios developing Crossed for the big screen,” says Jabbaz. “From day one, our primary goal has been to deliver a faithful adaptation of the original series, along with a few new surprises. I certainly hope audiences are ready for this.”

“It’s 2025 and the world is catching up with the world of Crossed in all the wrong ways,” adds Ennis. “So what better time to bring out the movie you’ve all been waiting for?”

Carl Choi of Six Studios will produce along with Benjamin Hung of Retro Entertainment and Ken Levin of Nightsky Productions. Hung and Levin developed the project with Ennis, then brought it to Six Studios. Six Studios’ Jeff Huang will executive produce along with Ennis, Carl Amari, and Bill Patterson.

Crossed launched a comic franchise spawning more than 200 issues, including contributions from Watchmen creator Alan Moore.
