Macy Gray Seen Storming Off Stage In ITV’s ‘The Masked Singer’

US singer Macy Gray was branded a “sore loser” by TV viewers Saturday evening after she stormed off stage during her unveiling in The Masked Singer.

Gray – disguised as ‘Toad in the Hole’ – lost out in the elimination round of the competition in the UK version of the hit show. The audience had voted to save other artists, which meant she had to go head-to-head with ‘Bear’ in a sing-off. When the judges opted to save her rival, ‘Toad’ suddenly turned and walked off stage.

She was persuaded to return moments later when she revealed her identity – as guessed by two of the British judges – but then gave only one-word answers to struggling host Joel Dommett.

Gray’s behaviour was greeted by viewers with comments of “sore loser” on social media.

The Sun newspaper reported Sunday that the filming of the show was thrown into chaos, with producers left scrambling for nearly an hour to coax the I Try hitmaker back to the stage. This was not seen in the final edit that made it to screen Saturday evening.

Gray previously reached the final of the US version of the show in 2023, where she performed as ‘Snow Queen.’

Gray – born Natalie Renee McIntyre – is known for her distinctive raspy voice and singing style. She has released ten studio albums and been nominated for five Grammy Awards, winning one. As well as performing musically, she has appeared in several films, including Training Day, Spider-Man, Scary Movie 3, Lackawanna Blues, Idlewild, For Colored Girls and The Paperboy.
