When it came to the second season of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Andor, star Diego Luna says, “I can tell you, I’m sad.”
Awwww. Why so sad?
“Because it’s the last season!” he exclaimed on the Golden Globes red carpet, “it’s the end.”
The series takes place during the events that precede Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
“I’m excited for audiences to watch, it’s been a long journey. it’s cool,” Luna adds. Season 2 of Andor comes out on April 22, 2025.
Luna is up for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television at the Globes tonight for Hulu’s La Máquina.
On Andor, Luna plays renegade Cassian Andor who ultimately becomes one of the forefathers of the Rebellion in Star Wars. Season 1 follows a year in Andor’s life and wraps up at his adoptive mother Maarva’s (Fiona Shaw) funeral, an event he can’t exactly be out in the open at as the Imperials are tracking him. Season one ends with him on a freighter teaming with Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael, another Rebellion lynchpin.
Creator Tony Gilroy told Deadline that the final episode of S2 would take place “three, four days before the beginning of Rogue One, and then our final scene has always been known, which will be walking him into the first scene of Rogue One.”
It was reported in Forbes that cost of Season 2 was well north of $290.9M, more than the production cost of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, which Deadline pegged at $275M. The total production tally for Andor’s two seasons stands at $645M-plus.
Andor‘s season 2 was challenged by delays due to the dual strikes. Gilroy declared he had ceased all writing-related duties on May 1, 2023 amid the WGA strike. Further, Deadline reported exclusively on July 20, 2023 that Andor would be forced to temporarily pause its Season 2 shoot due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
