We Don’t Need To Hear The Origin Story Again

The latest episode of Creature Commandos gives viewers a first look at Batman in the DC Universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran created.

Episode 6 of the Max series offers the first glimpse of the Caped Crusdar in this new universe. In a new interview, Gunn revealed why there are a lot of silhouettes and not a detailed shot of the superhero.

“When they first gave it to me, we saw a lot more Batman,” Gunn said in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. “And I was saying, ‘I am not ready to commit to that. I’m not read to commit to that. I’m not ready to commit to that.’ So I was just like, ‘More silhouette, more silhouette, more silhouette.’”

Creature Commandos is said to be the first series of the DC Universe Gunn and Safran have created and part of their Chapter One: Gods and Monsters timeline. One of the film projects announced as part of this chapter includes Batman: The Brave and the Bold, a story of Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, who is Robin.

Gunn’s decision to include Batman in Creature Commandos was “to show that Batman does exist,” adding, “He already exists in this universe. Just like when we come to the Superman movie, we see the Superman already exists. He’s already known by the people in Metropolis.”

“We don’t need to hear the origin story again,” he continued. “That’s just a way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe. He’s an important part of this universe, and he has an impact on it, including defeating such pretty dangerous, scary people like Phosphorus.”

Gunn added that he loves Batman, “I’ve loved him since I was a little kid. He’s one of my favorite characters. I’ve gone on record in the past, when I was at Marvel, saying, ‘My favorite character is Batman.’”

“We’re gonna do great things with him,” he said about Batman. “He’s the most popular superhero in the world and I can’t wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman and together.”

Batman had previously appeared in Creature Commandos Season 1, Episode 4 as a dead corpse in Circe’s dark vision of the future. In Episode 6 titled “Priyatel Skelet,” Batman’s silhoutte appears on the roof as he crashed Phosphorus’ party at the Ice Lounge.
