Emboldened Men Celebrate Donald Trump’s Win By Hurling Attacks On Women Online

“Hey, bitch, we control your bodies! Guess what, guys win again,” Nick Fuentes, the consistently antisemitic and racist livestreamer who describes himself as a “proud incel,” said following Donald Trump’s electoral victory this week. Trump and Fuentes shared dinner in 2022 with Kanye West.

“It’s your body, my choice,” Fuentes, who has over 430,000 followers on X and 114,000 on Rumble, continued, donning an America First hat.

Despite Donald Trump’s promise on the campaign trail that he would “PROTECT WOMEN AT A LEVEL NEVER SEEN BEFORE” and that “WOMEN WILL BE HAPPY, HEALTHY, CONFIDENT AND FREE!” the week following his election has appeared to invigorate violence against women in digital spaces.

In the moments and days following Trump’s reelection to the White House, emboldened men have been sending those same words to women across the nation through comments and private messages on social media. On X, some women have posted screenshots of the kinds of DMs they’ve been receiving. “Stupid cunt,” one message reads with a laughing emoji. “Your body. My choice. Dumb Whore” another says.

It’s unclear how many of these comments across different social media platforms are coming from bots or men within the United States.

This violent rhetoric online comes as the majority of American voters chose to elect Trump in his third run for office—the only time that he’s won the popular vote.

According to exit polls, there was a 10 percent gender gap, overall, between who voted for Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris—with 55% of men opting for Trump, compared to 45% of women. Over 90% of Black women said no to Trump, along with 60% of Latina women. White women, as they did in 2016 and 2020, were the only group in their gender to be more likely to vote for Trump over the Democrat.

During Trump’s bid for office, in May of last year, he was held liable for sexual abuse and defamation in E. Jean Carroll’s legal case against him. Trump has referred to Carroll, who has testified in court that he raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in 1996, a “nut job,” “whack job,” and a “liar.” Currently, he owes her $90 million—with interest. The former and future president has continuously bragged about appointing three of the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, effectively decimating access to abortion and other reproductive healthcare across the country. And, when running against Harris, who would have been the first woman and first Black and South Asian woman to win the presidency, he referred to her as “a low IQ individual” and “dumb as a rock,” reportedly called her a “bitch” multiple times, and, just a few days before the election, laughed when someone in his crowd yelled that, in the past, Harris had “worked on the corner.” (And that’s just since he announced his third run for office.)
