Kaia Gerber Looks Like Rose From ‘Titanic’ In Her Latest Red Carpet Appearance

We’re not sure if that was the exact reference Kaia was going for, but she shared some of the thinking behind her outfit in an Instagram caption where she explained she wanted to tap into a “gothic Hollywood glamour” aesthetic and teamed up with Givenchy’s new creative director, Sarah Burton, to dig out an archival number from the ’90s that replicated old-school appeal.

“[T]hank you for a beautiful and inspiring evening @theacademy 🖤 and thank you beyond measure to Sarah Burton for diving deep into the archives and making all my gothic hollywood glamour dreams come true. @givenchy fall ‘97 couture (!!!!!!!!) tears of love and gratitude to sarah and the whole givenchy team always,” Kaia said.

Is it a coincidence that Titanic came out in 1997? Maybe, maybe not – but in fact, Kate Winslet also wore a Givenchy gown to the Oscars in 1998, when she was nominated for Best Actress in the film.

As for Kaia Gerber’s glam, the model and actor worked with celebrity hair stylist, Bryce Scarlett, to create vintage half-up tumbling waves with face-framing kiss curls, while her softly defined makeup was achieved by Jenny Cho using all Addiction Tokyo cosmetics (which we’re still patiently waiting to drop in the UK).

But, while the archival film look is perfect for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures red carpet – which fundraises to support the museum’s dedicated cinema exhibits – it could work as a very vintage Halloween costume, too.
